Good afternoon,
Welcome everyone, to this important protest in front of the Iraqi embassy in London.
We are gathered here to convey to the Iraqi authorities via their embassy here, our protesting voice, due to its delays & procrastination in publicly announcing any results of the investigations into the case of the murder of our beloved leading comrade Yanar Mohammed, president of the Organisation of Women’s Freedom in Iraq and member of the Central Committee of the Organisation of the Communist Alternative in Iraq.
Your support for Yanar and her decades-long dedication and tireless struggle in support of women’s rights and freedoms, and of building a powerful emancipatory women’s movement in Iraq linked with the struggles of the working class and the poor for freedom and equality, is immensely encouraging and important.
This fantastic solidarity and dedication through you sparing the time and energy to attend this protest is highly appreciated and it gives us all the hope, that the criminal terrorists and those parties and forces behind them who committed the heinous crime of murdering Yanar’s, will not remain free and escape punishment.
Yanar has spent almost a quarter of a century in support of women in Iraq, in an extremely dangerous and risky environment. She managed to provide shelter and secure a safe life for almost 1400 women, whom escaped the immediate threat of violence, destitution, and killing.
The history of the struggle of the working class, the youth and the women in Iraq is inseparable from the work and struggles of Yanar during this whole period.
It is the responsibility of the Iraqi government and its relevant authorities to identify the killers of Yanar Mohammed without any further delays and to take immediate action in this regard.
We are determined to continue campaigning and put pressure internationally, on the Iraqi government to do their job and to achieve justice for Yanar. Justice for Yanar is justice for all women and the oppressed and the exploited masses of Iraq.
Yanar’s cause is a women’s cause and a socialist emancipatory cause all over the world. She was an international figure, and her death galvanised a great deal of solidarity on a global scale.
The campaign for bringing about justice for Yanar needs to be an international one, and that is what we aim to achieve.
We will continue to press on the Iraqi authorities by organising protests, petitions, and all civic forms of struggle inside and outside Iraq.
